DV Victim’s Poem of Realisation
I live for you,
will you live for me too,
I would die for you,
Would you do what I would do?
I am tired of hearing your excuse,
Tired of not being able to fend off your abuse.
You’re a sick man,
I know that now,
I should have had a plan,
When I decided to lay down with a cow,
You treated me like trash,
How could you, dear?
I feel like my world will crash,
Life was never fear,
Yet it’s my fault for falling for you,
There is only me to blame,
For listening to you,
Only to end up in a losing game.
But with God’s help I’ll be able to go
Before you realise you don’t want to let me go.
I’ll move as fast as I can
Before you use your insidious plan.
This is a poem written by a victim of domestic violence. You can see her go through the process of realisation throughout the poem, and in the end, she left and was able to stay away. Many women become addicted to their abusers, because the abuse that they have experienced weakens them and they lose confidence in their own ability to make decisions. They then become co-dependent within that relationship, but a co-dependent relationship isn’t just a one sided problem. There are two within it, not one with a problem and one without. The abuser themselves is also co-dependent, and usually they get an energetic feed off the one that is clinging to them. It’s vapiristic in its nature, where one sucks the life-force out of the other, but the one doing the sucking needs the other as their energetic food supply. If you have this type of dynamic going on within your relationship, then for your own sanity and emotional health (and to restore your life-force to healthy levels), you would do well to leave.
