Over the last 15 years, Madeline Rose has envisaged creating an organisation that would help women and children (and animal companions) escape domestic violence situations. In the course of creating that vision in her mind, she has thought of every possible problem that might occur, and every way to tackle that problem or to avoid it altogether. With her background in business she has learned where most weaknesses in business start, and how to create a strong profitable business that provides good service and benefits everyone involved, whilst minimising weak spots.
The vision for owning a wedding reception venue incorporates her previously laid plans of owning a Bridal and Formal wear boutique. It also incorporates the Health Retreat she envisaged as part of the overall aims of her organisation, as it will be able to assist by helping restore the women and children’s health and teaching about nutrition.
Madeline’s has written about retail business ownership the fashion industry when writing her training manuals for teaching in the adult education colleges, namely running a Bridal-wear Boutique where brides can sell their once-worn dresses on consignment, and bridesmaids can do the same. This knowledge will come in handy when we own our own wedding reception venue and the shop that will be attached to it.
From her years of running her own dancing school and organising events such as Annual Balls, Medal Examination Days, Woolshed Dances, Social Dances, Dance Exhibitions and Social Events (as well as teaching the Bridal waltz and other partner-style dances), she has the experience to organise the events needed to make a wedding reception venue operate at full capacity. Madeline envisages marketing the benefits of marrying at our own venue because for young brides and grooms to use the facility knowing that the Foundation behind it says NO to domestic violence, it is a way to make a strong statement that “there will be no domestic violence in this marriage”. This will surely appeal to brides everywhere, and for grooms who know that violence is wrong, it’s a strong promise that they will never beat or rape their wife, or abuse their children.
The venue will only be used for Fundraising, because for those that the Foundation assists, it’s very important that the location where they live is kept secret so that they can remain safe. It’s also important that violent men don’t arrive at our venue in the middle of an event demanding to know where their wife is. So for this reason the wedding reception house will only be a venue for fundraising.
The funds that will be raised from running a profitable business at our venue will be used to provide accommodation for the women and their children (and animal companions) where they will be housed in 2-3 bedroom apartments elsewhere away from this property. It is likely that the women will live scattered around the Illawarra region. The Loving Heart Foundation will be fitting security monitors at all locations, and will also be providing furnishings and linen, crockery, cutlery and bedding so that everything the women and children need is there for them.
In our first year after we set up our wedding reception venue, the Loving Heart Foundation aims to help 30 women and up to 90 children and animal companions at a time, for up to six months or until something else can be arranged for them. The numbers will be doubled in the second year if all goes well.
